Like a bird on the wire, like a drunk in a midnight choir, I have tried in my way to be free – Leonard Cohen

I don’t think a caged bird sings, I think it cries.

Flying started at 6:30 this morning.  Although it wasn’t foggy when we departed the runway, it quickly turned that way all around us.  We were going to go to the New River Valley Airport but the Roanoke airport was our best option.  It was the perfect selection in my opinion!

There it was nice and clear – and beautiful, of course.

Today was super exciting for me.  I got to land on all four runways there:  06, 24, 16, and 34.   I was the one getting “very good” from Roger today!  Who needed clouds:  I felt like I was walking on one!

At one point, we had to hold for a jet to take off before we could land.  That was cool.  Then Roger told me to wait until the jet path had dissipated before I could land.  ( Which reminds me:  I have cool Ray-Ban sunglasses, but now I’m going to have to get myself an aviation dictionary and an air traffic control terminology guide.  Both traffic control and Roger sounded pretty sexy with all the aviation lingo going on.)

Whew!  What a wonderful, amazing morning!  When we got back to Blacksburg, we were met with fog.  But, that was alright.

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine almost always makes me high
If I had a day that I could give you
I’d give to you the day just like today
If I had a song that I could sing for you
I’d sing a song to make you feel this way
-John Denver
